Cedar Bluff Heritage Festival, VA

CEDAR BLUFF, VA — The Cedar Bluff Heritage Festival will be held on September 18, 2010 and features hourly entertainment including music, storytelling and dancing.

The 2010 festival will highlight the rich heritage of Cedar Bluff. Founded in 1800, Cedar Bluff is a charming 19th century mill town developed along the Old Kentucky Turnpike, a quaint street looking much as it did when the thoroughfare was chartered in 1848. From the elaborately restored old grist mill to the 1873 birthplace of Governor George C. Peery, Cedar Bluff offers the nostalgia of a time gone by. Horse and carriage tours of the Old Kentucky Turnpike historic district will be conducted throughout the day of the festival. A full size replica of the Confederate submarine H.L. Hunley will be on exhibit and a Civil War camp re-enactment will highlight the Town's Civil War heritage.

Local heritage is also highlighted by area residents making household staples such as apple butter over an open fire, lye soap, quilts and wooden items.

Horse and carriage tours of the nationally listed historic district are conducted during the day and delicious foods are always abundant, including barbecue, baked goods, funnel cakes, hot dogs, popcorn, fried apple pies and much more.

Always held the third Saturday in September, the Cedar Bluff Heritage Festival attracts approximately fifteen thousand visitors and over 150 vendors each year. Vendors are encouraged to register early to obtain exhibit space.
